Illinois (IL) Schedule Time for Oversize/Overweight Permits: Permit loads up to 12 feet wide, 13 feet-6 inches high, 200 feet in length approved 24 hours 7 days per week with one citizen escort when traveling during the hours of darkness.  Permit loads up to 14 feet-6 inches wide, up to 15 feet high, up to 200 feet in length, can now travel seven days per week, one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset. EXEMPTIONS: Length limitations don’t make a difference (O/D permit not needed) for vehicles operated in the daytime, Monday through Friday when transporting beams, poles, pipe, culvert, or other objects of a structural nature 80 feet or less long (overall length 100 feet or less). Farm tractors and other implements of husbandry might be hauled without a grant during daylight hours (including weekends) when over width only. A permit is still required if over 13 feet-6 inches high, or overweight.

SIGNS, FLAGS & LIGHTS: Flags are needed on the extremities of all oversize vehicles or loads and all protruding objects. “Oversize Load” signs are needed on loads over 10 feet wide, 14 feet-6 inches high, and/or 75 feet long. All oversize/overweight permit loads should display an operable oscillating, rotating, or flashing amber light or lights on the tractor. The size of the light(s) is not specified, but it must be visible from both sides and the front and must be strong enough to be seen for at least 500 feet in the daytime. When the visibility of the light is blocked from the back, and for loads over 80 feet long or combinations over 100 feet long need a second light is required mounted 10 feet of the back of the object, mounted as high as practical over it, is required.
