Colorado Chain Law: All commercial vehicle truck-tractors working on I-70 between Dotsero (milepost 133) and Morrison (milepost 259) between September 1st to May 31st should convey enough chains to be conflicting with the Colorado chain regulation. You can be fined for the inability to go along. A permit is presently available for overweight divisible loads on tractor/trailers with tandem, tridem, or quad trailer.

SIGNS, FLAGS & LIGHTS: “Oversize Load” signs are required front and rear for all oversize loads. They are not needed and should not be used for overweight only loads. Flags are required for each of the four corners of any extremities for wide and over-length loads, and at the end of load projections greater than 4 feet.

For night travel of wide loads, a glimmering yellow light mounted on the front of the vehicle and two or three mounted to the extreme back are required. Over-length or with rear overhang (over 10 feet ) may run at night with a glimmering yellow light mounted to the front of the vehicle and from one to three group lights mounted to the overhang (red for back overhang, yellow for front overhang). For night travel with a legal overhang (10 feet back or less) but greater than 4 feet back, a red light or lantern visible for 500 feet is expected at the end of load projection.
